using human design in coaching

Human Design is a powerful tool that can revolutionize your coaching practice by helping you understand your clients on a deeper, more personal level. By integrating Human Design into your coaching sessions, you can create a more tailored, impactful experience that empowers your clients while also boosting your own confidence as a coach. In this blog post, we’ll explore how you can use Human Design to improve your coaching practice and enhance client relationships.

You can watch the episode about this subject here, or read on below.

What Is Human Design and Why Should You Use It in Coaching?

Human Design is a system that combines astrology, the I Ching, quantum physics, biochemistry, and other sciences to create a detailed blueprint of a person's energy, behaviour, and potential. Unlike traditional personality tests like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), which only scratch the surface, Human Design goes much deeper, offering a soul-level understanding of a person’s natural strengths, challenges, and life purpose.

For coaches, integrating Human Design into your practice provides a more holistic approach to understanding your clients. It allows you to look beyond their surface-level actions and tap into the deeper drivers of their behaviour. This empowers you to guide them in a way that aligns with their unique nature, creating an experience that feels authentic and energizing for both you and your clients.

1. Recognizing and Supporting Your Client’s Energy Type

In Human Design, there are five energy types: Manifestors, Manifesting Generators, Generators, Projectors, and Reflectors. Each type has a unique way of interacting with the world, and understanding these differences can help you guide your clients more effectively.

For example, Manifesting Generators and Generators have a consistent energy flow, but only when they are engaging in activities they love. If you’re working with one of these energy types, you can encourage them to follow their passions and provide them with guidance on how to focus on what excites them. In contrast, Projectors have a different energy dynamic. They thrive when they are invited to share their insights, rather than constantly pushing or striving for recognition. By helping your Projector clients understand this, you can encourage them to take time for rest and self-care, which will ultimately help them feel more successful and energized.

2. Supporting Your Client’s Decision-Making Process

One of the most powerful aspects of Human Design is its emphasis on decision-making authority. In Human Design, each person has a specific authority — a unique way they are designed to make decisions. Some people are designed to make decisions based on their emotions, while others may rely on their gut feeling or inner knowing.

As a coach, you can help your clients understand how they are designed to make decisions. For example, if you’re working with a client who has emotional authority (which is common for 50% of people), it’s crucial for them to wait for clarity before making decisions. By guiding your client to trust their own decision-making process, you help them avoid rash decisions that may not align with their true desires.

This can be an incredibly empowering process for your clients, as they learn to make decisions in a way that feels aligned with their inner wisdom, rather than from external pressure or fear.

3. Identifying Challenges and Patterns in Your Clients

Human Design offers a deeper understanding of where your clients might be operating from a place of fear, conditioning, or their "not-self." These are patterns that may be holding them back or causing them to make decisions based on societal expectations, rather than their true nature.

By using Human Design, you can help your clients identify these limiting patterns and recognize when they’re not living in alignment with their true selves. For example, you may discover that a client is making decisions out of fear or insecurity. Understanding these patterns allows you to provide specific guidance and support that helps them overcome these challenges, so they can step into their authentic power.

Integrating Human Design into Your Coaching Practice

So how do you start integrating Human Design into your coaching sessions? The first step is to get your client's birth information (time, date, and location) so you can generate their Human Design chart. If they don’t know their exact birth time, there are tools available to help you find the most accurate time, which will ensure you get the most accurate chart.

Once you have your client’s chart, you can begin analyzing it to understand their energy type, authority, and potential challenges. While some clients may be interested in knowing their Human Design, others may not. If a client isn’t keen on learning about Human Design, you can still use the insights from their chart in a more subtle way, guiding them based on their unique energy dynamics without needing to explain the system.

Example: A Client's Transformation with Human Design

One of my clients, an intuitive coach and empath activator, came to me wanting to understand a new client of hers better. This client seemed like a perfect fit on the surface, but she struggled to connect with her in a meaningful way. After running her client’s Human Design chart, we discovered that her client was a Projector, while my client was a Manifesting Generator.

By understanding the Projector’s need for rest and recognition, my client was able to adjust her approach and guide her client in a way that was more aligned with her energy. Her client started to feel more seen and understood, and she was able to thrive in her coaching sessions. This transformation led to an incredible testimonial from the client, who expressed how groundbreaking it was to learn something new about herself that she had never realized before.
